Induction and Foundation Online Course
The Mary Walsh Institute and Akamas have created a unique online induction course which meets the generic induction and foundation requirements of the Children’s Workforce Development Council, Skills for Care and those set out in the Care Standards Act 2000.
The course is designed for organisations and individuals who require evidenced training that will also contribute to the National Vocational Qualifications and the SACCS / NEWI.
Foundation Degree (Module 1)
The module titles are:
- Children's Rights
- Diversity and Equal Opportunities
- Professional and Personal Development
- Safe Care and Risk Assessment
- Records and Record Keeping
- Attachment and Trauma
- Sex and Sexuality
- Introduction to Therapeutic Child Care
- Working with Challenging Behaviour
- Introduction to Self Harm
- Communicating with Traumatised Children
- Protecting Children from Abuse
Each module is available as a 10 hour online unit, and once the training is completed candidates will undertake multiple choice tests. On passing, a certificate is electronically available confirming that the student meets the national standards and is competent within the subject.
N.B. The above programme does not include induction requirements subject to specific regional standards; these may include Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Handling Medicines, and Food Hygiene. We recommend that organisations source this training locally.
NVQ Assessment Centre – From September 2007 the Mary Walsh Institute will offer a Vocational Assessment Centre providing NVQ Assessments at Levels 3 and 4, including Management. The Centre will also deliver an NVQ Assessors course.
