NATIONAL CHILDREN’S CONTRACTING & COMMISSIONING CONFERENCE
13th and 14th September 2007

Developing the Market for Children’s Services

The National Contracting and Commissioning Conference for Children’s Services is to be held on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th September, at The Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, Derbyshire.

This is the 5th conference held specifically on children’s services. (In the previous 10 years many of the annual conferences had often focused mainly on adult services.)

The Conference is organised by regional representatives and staff with contracting and commissioning responsibilities in Social Care, Education and Health who are in LA’s and PCT’s. This year it is also organised in collaboration with INLOGOV (which is part of Birmingham University) with the support and blessing of the Department for Education and Skills (now the DCSF).

The Conference seeks to address both strategic commissioning issues, and important areas of contracting techniques and skills (the nuts and bolts). We will have input from the DfES and be able to share some of the findings from the  Regional Centres of  Excellence as well as numerous examples of what is being developed and works across the country. The DfES will be running a number of sessions to share what they are doing in various partner pilots up and down the country.

One of the key themes of the conference will be the commissioning with partners and how they have led to innovation and improved service outcomes for children.

This conference is aimed at staff currently based in education (and health) will link with social care colleagues to send a balanced team.

SACCS are delighted to announce we have been invited to present a workshop which is entitled The Importance of Early Intervention in Decision Making with Children; Strategic Commissioning to Achieve Maximum Outcomes for Minimum Cost.  The workshop presenters are Billy Pughe, Operations Director and Patrick Tomlinson, Strategic Director.
