Becoming a Foster Carer

SACCS Family Placement is seeking to recruit carers to offer our different types of placement.

Placements we offer are currently as follows:

  • Long Term Permanent placements
  • Practice Family Placements
  • Respite Placements
  • Direct Short-Term Placements

Different people with different qualities are required to undertake these placements.

Carer Specification

We believe that people who are carers for SACCS Family Placement should fit the following person specification; all foster families, following the individual and group preparation, should be able to offer the following:

  1. An ability to meet the day to day care of the children being looked after, bearing in mind that particular children have experienced separation, loss and the trauma of abuse.
  2. An ability to set appropriate boundaries, and care for and control children within these, without use of physical or inappropriate punishment.
  3. An ability to build trusting relationships with the young people placed.
  4. An ability to listen and communicate with children as appropriate to their age and understanding.
  5. An ability to promote contact as appropriate to the placement.
  6. An ability to work within a written agreement, including carrying out particular tasks.
  7. An ability of the whole foster family to share / respond to the needs of children placed.
  8. An ability to be able to develop skills learnt during the training and a commitment to ongoing training.
  9. An ability to use the support offered and work with other professional people.
  10. To have a knowledge of child development, and an ability to recognise physical and emotional development, behaviour which might be concerning.
  11. An ability to maintain confidentiality and keep clear recording information.
  12. An ability to participate in meetings, reviews, court appearances as appropriate.
  13. An ability to work in an anti-discriminatory way.
