Assessment process

  1. Enquiry made by phone or via the internet. Pack sent out.
  2. Home visit to discuss your interest and to share information.
  3. You will be invited to complete an application form.
  4. Statutory Checks are taken up. Medicals with your GP are arranged and written references sought from personal references, employers references and children's schools (if applicable).
  5. Social worker visits – 6-10 individual and joint discussions over a period of weeks to establish what you can offer.
  6. Residential Weekend Training Course takes place to provide preparation training for the role of foster carer with SACCS Family Placement. This forms part of the overall assessment.
  7. You are asked to prepare your own 'Life Story'/Background for the Form F.
  8. Social worker visits referees.
  9. Social worker writes Form F which is given to you to read. You may have written much of it yourself. Any agreed amendments will be made. Any areas of disagreement will be noted on the Form F.
  10. You prepare a Family Book and 'Thoughts about Fostering' Booklet with our help.
  11. If everyone agrees then your application is submitted to the Joint Shropshire County Council / SACCS Family Placement Fostering Panel. Panel will make a recommendation about your approval, which is considered by Mary Walsh, Agency Decision Maker.
