Making a foster placement

SACCS Family Placement is the placement arm of SACCS Care Limited. We are the last stage of the process of a child’s recovery, and offer an integrated services based on:

  • Identification of children suitable for placement in the SACCS Recovery/Assessment scoring process.
  • Appropriate matching of children/young people to carers.
  • Professional assessment and training of carers able to meet the child/young persons needs and able to work within the SACCS Recovery Model.
  • Thought out introductory plans for young people based on the principles of reflecting and taking time rather than momentum and tailored around children’s needs.

Types of placement

SACCS Family Placement offer a range of placement including the following:

Long Term Fostering

The children placed within SACCS Family Placement come from our Residential Homes Our aim is to continue the process of recovery, by establishing it as a reality in a family setting. We are therefore looking for a long term, permanent commitment that will offer a secure home and work closely with others involved in the care of the child.

Our long term fostering placements offer a unique and different service and incorporate the following:

  • A therapeutic family placement for a traumatised child
  • Delivery and review of individual recovery plan
  • Access to psychologists and therapists as required
  • Regular supervision and ongoing training for carers

Practice Family Placment

SACCS Family Placement has developed a specialist fostering scheme for children in SACCS Residential Homes. Many young people in our homes have had very difficult family experiences and families to them can mean harm and abuse It takes time to gain confidence and understanding that not all families are like this. Hence our Practice Family Scheme.

A child is linked to a family, who will visit him/her in the home and the child will spend time with the family. The aim is that the child understands that not all families are the same, and that families are safe, hence carers offer a weekend family experience to a child about once a month.

There is no expectation that Practice Families will eventually take the child long term and normally Practice Families are only linked to one child.

Respite Care

SACCS Family Placement offer a respite care service to its long term carers. In the main this is acting as a support to care when a break is needed. This is a specialised service of work and people often know the child in advance. Respite care tends to be an ongoing basis with children/young people staying regularly for short specified periods of time.

Direct Placements

SACCS Family Placement is developing a short-term direct foster placement service for children. These will be specific, time limited placements, where carers have a task to undertake, normally as a bridge to the next placement of a SACCS residential home. Carers working in this way are often faced with specific behavioural difficulties or tasks, although they are short-term placements our aim is to ensure that placement are planned, they do not occur in an emergency and have full support for residential services.
